For the second straight week, Minnesota freshman forward Jordan Schroeder has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Rookie of the Week.
The Prior Lake, Minn. native helped the Gophers post a win and a tie in a series against fifth-ranked New Hampshire last weekend. He scored Minnesota’s first goal in Friday’s 2-2 tie with the Wildcats and then assisted the Gophers’ two first period goals in Saturday’s 6-2 victory.
Schroeder leads all rookie players in Division I hockey in scoring with three goals and eight assists for 11 points. He also has a plus-nine rating and has been especially impressive on faceoffs, winning 60.1 percent of his draws (95-for-158).
The Gophers are 5-0-3 and share the longest unbeaten streak in the country. Minnesota is ranked second in the nation and hosts Michigan Tech on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. each day at Mariucci Arena.
