THE SERIES
Since the start of the series in 1998, Minnesota holds an all-time record of 37-3-2 against the Mavericks. Last year, the Gophers won all four games against MSU, including back-to-back shutouts on their home ice. Last year at Ridder, the Gophers won 3-1 and erased a two-goal deficit to win, 4-3. Minnesota’s last loss to the Mavericks came in the 2006-07 season when MSU swept Minnesota, 3-2 and 4-3 at All Seasons Arena.

THE MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS
The Minnesota State Mavericks hold a 6-5-1 overall record and a 3-4-1 mark in WCHA action. MSU enters the series after a two-game loss to St. Cloud State last weekend. Losing both games by one goal, MSU fell 3-2 in overtime to SCSU and 4-3 last Saturday. The Mavericks’ last two wins came against Bemidji State when they won both games by a goal, 3-2 and 4-3. Junior forward Kala Buganski leads the team with 13 points, followed by Christina Lee with 12 and Maggie Fisher with 11. On the season, MSU has scored 15 power-play goals in 79 chances and has killed off 64 penalties in 75 attempts for a .853 percentage. Jeff Vizenor is in his eighth season at MSU, posting a 77-140-23 record overall with the Mavericks.

DID YOU KNOW?
This weekend could be a battle of the former Eagan (Minn.) High School goalies in Minnesota’s Alyssa Grogan and MSU’s Alli Altmann. Last year, now freshmen starters for their respective teams, Grogan and Altmann were each starters for the Eagan Wildcats as they split time between the pipes. Grogan was named the Senior Goalie of the Year, while Altmann was a finalist for the award. Like Grogan, Altmann was an all-state selection last year. This season, Grogan holds a 4-0-1 appearance in six games, while Altmann has played in nine and with a 4-3-1 mark.
