Two-time All-American Jayson Ness represented the University of Minnesota at the 43rd NWCA All-Star Classic on Monday evening in Columbus, Ohio. The event  which annually showcases the top wrestlers in collegiate wrestling was hosted this year by Ohio State University at St. John’s Arena.

Ness, making his second consecutive appearance after falling by a 5-2 decision to Nebraska’s Paul Donahoe a year ago, wrested Illinois’ #4 Jimmy Kennedy at 133 pounds tonight. Kennedy defeated Ness this evening with a 7-5 decision.

The loss in the exhibition event will not affect Ness’ perfect 6-0 record this season. Five of the Ness’ six wins this season have come via pins. The Bloomington, Minn. native matched a school record with 20 pins while posting a 39-2 record a year ago.

Ness and the Gophers are in action this weekend at the Northern Quad in Rochester, Minn. The Gophers will take on Northern Colorado, North Dakota State and Portland State in a dual meet format at the UCR Regional Sports Center starting at 10:00 a.m.
