Gophers Back In Pool For Ohio State Invitational

The No. 9 Minnesota men's swimming and diving team (2-0) will be back in action this weekend at the Ohio State Invitational, December 5-7, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. The meet will serve as the final competition prior to the Gophers' annual winter training trip to Hawaii and an opportunity to post the best times of the season in anticipation of the Big Ten Championships in February.
The meet field will include Big Ten foes #11 Ohio State and #19 Penn State along with Notre Dame and Cleveland State. South Carolina, Iowa and Duke will also field their diving teams at the event. The Gophers won the Invitational the past three seasons but this year's event figures to be a close race with the Buckeyes. Minnesota edged the Buckeyes by just two points for third place at the Big Ten Championships a year ago.

Minnesota is one of six ranked Big Ten teams in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America poll. Michigan is ranked third, followed by Minnesota (9), Ohio State (11), Indiana (14), Purdue (15) and Penn State (19). Texas is ranked first, receiving all 10 first place votes.
This will be the first competition for sophomore diver Drew Brown since breaking Minnesota's school records for the three-meter springboard and 10-meter platform at the Minnesota Diving Invitational three weeks ago.
Minnesota has never lost a competition at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, which opened in 2005. Minnesota won the Ohio State Invitational in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and took the title at the 2007 Big Ten Championships.
Minnesota has won the last nine regular season invitational meets it has entered since 2002 when it finished third at the Dallas Morning News Invitational. The Gophers have won three Ohio State Invites, four Minnesota Invitationals and two Georgia Invitationals since 2002.
