Five Minnesota Hockey Players Earn WCHA Scholar Athlete Laurels

Three-time selection Evan Kaufmann headlines five University of Minnesota men's and women's hockey players honored as Western Collegiate Athletic Conference scholar athletes.
Kaufmann is one of three Minnesota repeat selections as teammate Tom Pohl was named for the second straight year along with Gigi Marvin from the Golden Gopher women’s team. First-time selections from the Minnesota women’s hockey team were senior Anya Miller and sophomore Michelle Maunu.
Overall, 78 athletes from the WCHA were honored, representing the league’s 12 institutions and 18 teams. To earn recognition as a WCHA scholar athlete, individuals must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters. Athletes may also qualify if their overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at their present institution.
Kaufmann, a senior forward from Plymouth, is an accounting major and has played in all 32 games this season with five goals and seven assists. He has 28 goals for his career in 134 games played.
Pohl, a senior forward from Red Wing, is majoring in political science and marketing. In 25 games this season, he has one goal and three assists. Pohl has scored four goals in 65 career games for the Gophers.
Marvin, a junior forward from Warroad, is a communication major and leads the Gophers in scoring with 16 goals and 24 assists while appearing in all 30 games. She has 50 goals and 74 assists for 124 points in 106 career games played.
Miller, a senior defenseman from Elk River, is majoring in elementary education. She ranks second on the team among defenseman scoring with eight goals and 15 assists while playing all 30 games. Miller has 18 goals and 50 assists in 144 career games over the past four seasons.
Maunu, a sophomore defenseman from Esko, is undeclared on a major. She has played in all 30 games and totaled two goals and 10 assists. She has four goals in 66 career games during her two seasons.
