Ohio State scored 29 points off 21 Minnesota turnovers defeating the Golden Gophers 76-62 at Value City Arena in Columbus on Sunday. The Gophers fall to 15-8 overall and 6-5 in Big Ten play. The Buckeye was tied for first-place in the Big Ten with an 8-3 league record, 17-5 overall.

Leslie Knight, the Big Ten’s second-leading scorer, topped the Gophers with 16 points on 6-of-10 from the field. Zoe Harper posted her first collegiate double-double with 13 points (one below her career high) and 10 rebounds. For the second consecutive game, Emily Fox struggled on offense, making just 2-of-13 shots and scoring six points. She did dish out five assists.

Buckeye senior Marscilla Packer didn’t start the game (a coach’s decision) but made up for lost time scoring 14 second-half points, including a trio of three-point field goals. She finished with 16. Ashley Trebilcock led all scorers with 19.

No. 19/17 Ohio State kept any Minnesota comeback attempt at bay by shooting a torrid 69.2 percent from the floor in the second half. The Gopher post players did a decent job on Big Ten rookie sensation Jantel Lavender, who finished with 12 points but shot just 6-of-14 from the field.

Katie Ohm hit a three-pointer on the Gophers’ first possession of the second half to bring the Gophers to within two points at 32-30. Ohio State would take control with a 14-4 run capped off by Packer’s first triple.

Knight scored four early points to help the Gophers take an early 10-4 lead six minutes into the game. Ohio State answered with the first of two runs, this one a nine-point rally to take a 13-10 lead.

Minnesota closed to within 23-21 on a Knight lay-in with 7:47 left before halftime. The Buckeyes rattled off another run of nine straight with reserve guard Maria Moeller’s two three-pointers from the left baseline accounting for six of the points. Moeller’s second triple with 3:49 on the clock gave Ohio State its biggest first-half lead at 28-19.

Ohio State score 16 points off 11 first-half Gopher turnovers to lead 32-27 at intermission. McCoy scored six points in the half but sat out important minutes with two personal fouls.

Minnesota plays two home games next week, Thursday versus Illinois and Sunday against Northwestern.
