Gophers in 17th at Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational

The Minnesota men’s golf team combined to shoot a team score of 305 to finish the first round of the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in 17th place.

Junior Victor Almstrom led Minnesota with a 1-over par 73 and is the only Gopher in the top 25 heading into Saturday’s second round.

Tennessee had three players close out Friday’s play among the top 15 individuals and sits atop the leaderboard after carding a team total of 6-under 282. Alabama at 285 and South Carolina at 286 rounded out the top three spots.

South Carolina’s Mark Anderson was the top individual, firing a 4-under 68 to lead the 96-player field.

Minnesota Junior Yu Katayama shot a 4-over 76 and senior Clayton Rask totaled at 5-over 69 to finish tied for 57th and 69th, respectively. Freshman Mikael Salminen shot a 7-over 79 to provide Minnesota’s final counting score.
