Six Gophers Land WCHA All-Academic Honors

Six University Minnesota men's hockey players have been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association on the league's all-academic team.
Five of the selections were repeat honorees, including four three-time selections. Seniors Mike Howe, Evan Kaufmann, Derek Peltier and Tom Pohl all earned their third career honor. Junior Justin Bostrom was named to the squad for the second straight year and sophomore Brian Schack earned his first all-academic award.
Howe is an assistant captain from St. Cloud majoring in kinesiology, while Kaufmann is an assistant captain from Plymouth majoring in accounting. Peltier, the team's captain, is also from Plymouth and majors in business and marketing education. Pohl, a Red Wing native, has already graduated and is working towards a master's degree in political science and marketing.
Bostrom, a Vadnais Heights native, is majoring in communication and Schack is a Lino Lakes native who has not declared a major.
To earn a position on the All-WCHA Academic Team, member team student-athletes must have completed one year of residency at present institution, prior to the current academic year; and have a grade point average of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters or three quarters. An athlete may also qualify if his overall GPA is at least 3.00 for all terms at his present institution.
