Gophers Jump Out To Early Lead At Diablo Grande

The University of Minnesota women’s golf team shot a combined team score of 326 during the opening round of the Diablo Grande Invitational Sunday in Patterson, Calif., and leads the tournament by 10 strokes heading into Tuesday’s second round.

Southern Illinois closed out the opening 18 holes in second place with a score of 336 followed by Wichita State at 341.

Four Gopher golfers completed the first round among the top six individuals. Freshmen Teresa Puga and Samantha Sommers shot 79 and 80, respectively, and sit atop the leader board in the No. 1 and 2 positions. Fellow Minnesota freshman Mary Narzisi fired an 81 and in fourth place, while junior Sydney Liles is tied for sixth after shooting an 83.

The second round of the Diablo Grande Invitational tees off on Monday morning at the par 72 Diablo Grande Legends West Course.
