The quartefinal round of the 2008 NCAA Championships is underway from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
Minnesota's Jayson Ness, the first Gopher to compete Friday morning, tied Minnesota's single-season pin record with his 20th of the season over Old Dominion's James Nicholson in 4:04. Ness also pinned UC Davis' Marcus Orozco in the tournament's first round and advances to the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year.
Bloomington Kennedy (Minn.) high school alums Ness and Marty Morgan (the current Gopher head assistant coach) now share the record. Morgan had 20 pins in 1989-90 en route to an All-American finish at 167 pounds (Watch Morgan record his 20th pin).
