An Iowa native, Reiter crossed the border to embed himself in the Minnesota wrestling record books and leave his mark on wrestling throughout the state. Reiter began his career in emphatic fashion with a a 40-7 record and fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. In his first career season, Reiter became the 11th wrestler in Minnesota history to win 40 matches in one season. Reiter captured All-American honors again his sophomore season and then rallied to do it again as a senior after a knee injury limited him his junior season.

Reiter would ultimately finish his career as a three-time All-American with 112 victories, 38 pins, and a 0.806 winning percentage. All those marks stand at least top-30 in Gophers history. Reiter was a part of the Gophers last NCAA team title in 2007.

After hanging up the singlet, Reiter spent multiple seasons on the Gophers staff as director of marketing and promotions. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2014. Reiter remains integral in the Minnesota wrestling community as part of Pinnacle Wrestling with fellow Gophers Jared Lawrence and Brandon Paulson.
