The Gopher men's golf team visited picturesque Augusta National Golf Course April 7 and took in a practice round leading up to the 2008 Masters.
“Every year it is a great opportunity to bring our team to Augusta National so that they can observe the world's best players prepare for one of golf's major championships,' said Gopher Associate Head Coach Andrew Tank. “It allows our players to follow the likes of Tiger Woods in person, which is an invaluable part of their maturation as student-athletes and students of the game of golf.'
Minnesota was in Augusta, Ga. after competing in the Administaff Augusta State Invitational. They finished 14th in a field that included many of the nation's best teams and players. The Gophers were led by senior Clayton Rask, who shot a 36-hole score of 4-under, 140 to finish in a tie for sixth place with South Carolina's Mark Anderson.
The Minnesota men's golf team travels to Stanford, California this weekend to take part in the highly anticipated U.S. Intercollegiate, hosted by perennial national power Stanford at the Stanford Golf Club. Last April, the Gophers lost the U.S. Intercollegiate tournament title on a tiebreaker to the top-ranked Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto, Calif. Both teams finished with a three-round total of 2-under-par 838, but the Cardinal won the title calculated by the three-day total of the throw-out score for each round. Stanford's total was 219 and the Gophers' was 223.
