The Gopher men's golf team carded a second consecutive 304 and finished in 16th place in the U.S. Collegiate at the Stanford Golf Club.

Gopher sophomore Thomas Campbell posted the lowest Gopher score for the weekend, and his lowest of the year, with a 17-over 227 to finish in a tie for 55th. Freshman Mikael Salminen posted a 20-over 230, one stroke better than senior Clayton Rask while fellow senior Patrick Datz and junior Yu Katayama turned in scores of 232 and 233, respectively.

The U.S. Collegiate field consisted of many of college golf's highest ranking teams. The University of Southern California, ranked fifth in the latest Golfweek poll, showed that they were worthy of the ranking with a 12-under score of 828, 13 strokes better that second place Stanford. The University of California, UCLA and UC-Irvine made it a California top-five.

USC's Rory Hie posted a 10-under score of 200 to take home medalist honors by eight strokes over his teammate Tom Glissmeyer, Stanford's Sihwan Kim and UCLA's Kevin Chappell.

This weekend's tournament marked the Gophers' final regular season contest. Minnesota's next time out will be April 25-27, as they head to East Lansing, Michigan for the 2008 Big Ten Championships hosted by Michigan State. This year's Big Tens will unfold at the 7,103-yard par 72 Forest Akers West Course layout.
