Ibrahim Kabia Wins 100-Meter Dash Title at Drake Relays

The Minnesota men’s track team celebrated its second Drake Relays title in as many days as junior sprinter Ibrahim Kabia took home the gold in the 100-meter dash on Saturday The Golden Gophers now have 47 titles in the prestigious history of the Drake Relays with Kabia and sophomore thrower Aaron Studt, who won the shot put on Friday, adding their names to the list in 2008.
Kabia, a Brooklyn Center, Minn., native, clocked a time of 10.44 seconds to win the 100 meters, edging Eastern Michigan’s Clint Allen in a photo finish. The effort is Kabia’s third NCAA Midwest Region Championships qualifying time of the season.
Ben Puhl gathered in an NCAA regional qualifying time as well in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Puhl finished fifth in a season-best time of 9:04.86.
The Gophers’ sprint medley relay of Jason Erickson, Safye Jassim, Hans Storvick and Logan Stroman place 14th in a time of 3:31.23.
Minnesota had a large contingent of athletes scheduled to compete on Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphu Drake Alternative Meet in St. Peter, Minn. The meet was cancelled due to inclement weather.
