The Minnesota baseball team has signed Justin Gominsky to a national letter of intent during the late signing period according to an announcement made by Minnesota head coach John Anderson on Tuesday, Apr. 29. Gominsky joins J.T. Canakes, Troy Larson, Austin Lubinsky, Matt Puhl and Kurt Schlagen as part of a class that is eligible to compete for Minnesota in 2009.

Gominsky is a 6-4, 190 pound outfielder out of Mahtomedi High School. He is a two-time All-Conference honoree for Mahtomedi in baseball. Last year, he batted .390 with nine stolen bases in his junior year of high school. Gominsky also batted .426 with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs and 19 stolen bases in Legion play this past summer. In 2006, he batted .386 with seven stolen bases, and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. He also batted .404 with eight doubles, three triples and 17 stolen bases in Legion play that summer.

As of Apr. 21, he was batting .417 with nine RBI in seven games this season. Gominsky was also mentioned as one of the top senior high school players in the Central Region by Perfect Game Crosschecker when it named its top seniors in the region.

This past year, Gominsky helped Mahtomedi finish as the 4A state runner up in football. He was named Second-Team All-State as a receiver, and had 63 catches, 1,205 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. The year before that, Gominsky was named All-Conference as a wide receiver. He was also part of Mahtomedi’s 4A state championship team in 2005.

“Justin fits very well into this recruiting class,” said Anderson. “He is a very athletic player, who was an All-State wide receiver along with being one of the top baseball players on his team. He is a high school player with three plus tools in his arm, his speed and his bat. Justin brings a great deal of athleticism and toughness. He is also player who has the athleticism to move around the field and play different positions, which should give us some versatility. Overall, I think he is good fit with this incoming class and with our program.”
