Men's Swimming & Diving Adds Papenfuss

University of Minnesota men’s swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Matt Papenfuss (Winona, Minn.) has signed an Acceptance of Admission form to attend the U of M in 2008-09.
Papenfuss, a senior at Winona Cotter High School, was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle at the 2008 Minnesota State High School League AA Championships. He finished second to another incoming Gopher freshman, Paul Tierney of Burnsville. He also placed third in the 100 freestyle behind Tierney. Papenfuss was a finalist in both events as a junior as well.
Papenfuss owns top times of 21.50 in the 50 free, 46.14 in the 100 free, 1:41.15 in the 200 free and 51.79 in the 100 butterfly (short course yards). Papenfuss also competes for Winona Swim Club under Kaleb Silverberg.
The addition of Papenfuss brings Minnesota’s 2008-09 incoming freshman class to eight, joining Andrew Knaak (Stillwater, Minn.), Paul Tierney (Burnsville, Minn.), Richard Hills (Baltimore, Md.), Zach Bolin (Blue Springs, Mo.), Dominique Massie-Martel (Ottawa, Canada), Karl Burdis (Dublin, Ireland) and Keith Yoho (Tomball, Texas).
