Several Golden Gophers Playing Well in the Northwoods League

The Minnesota baseball program has several players performing well in the Northwoods League this summer. Derek McCallum (Shoreview, Minn.), Nick O’Shea (Blaine, Minn.), Kyle Knudson (Maple Grove, Minn.) and A.J. Pettersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) are all playing for teams in the Northwoods League.
McCallum, who plays for the St. Cloud Riverbats, is currently leading the Northwoods League in batting average (.438), on-base percentage (.526), is tied for first in hits (28) and is tied for third in runs with 15. McCallum is 28-for-64 with 15 runs, 28 hits, 14 RBI and 12 walks.
Knudson is playing on the first place Mankato Moondogs who are 14-3 this summer. He is batting .250 with nine runs, four doubles, eight RBI and three stolen bases.
Pettersen, who redshirted the 2008 season for Minnesota, is currently ninth in the Northwoods League in batting average at .357. He is 15-for-42 with four runs, three RBI and two stolen bases for the Brainerd Blue Thunder this summer.
O’Shea, who also redshirted the 2008 season for the Golden Gophers, is batting .281 with eight runs, three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases for the Green Bay Bullfrogs this summer.
Last year, Nate Hanson led the Northwoods League in batting average and was the MVP of the All-State game for the Mankato Moondogs.
