Paulson Wins U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifier

University of Minnesota senior Andrew Paulson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) shot a 2-under 70 in the final round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifier to take medalist honors by one stroke over University of Wisconsin golfer Tyler Obermueller. With the win, Paulson qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links tournament at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The tournament is scheduled for July 14-19. Paulson managed to make seven birdies and only three bogeys in the 36-hole event.

Fellow Gopher Ben Pisani (Brisbane, Australia) shot rounds of 72 and 70 to finish with a 2-under 142 and miss qualifying for the tournament by one stroke. He will be the first alternate for the event in Colorado. Cameron White (71-73, 144), Yu Katayama (74-75, 149) and Thomas Campbell (77-74, 151) where also part of the field but did not qualify.

Paulson appeared in six tournaments during his junior season and finished with a stroke average of 76.0, the fourth-lowest on the team. His best tournament of the season came in the Gopher Invitational, where he finished in a tie for seventh after carding a 3-over 219. He also placed seventh at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge with a 4-over 220.
