Former University of Minnesota All-American Adam Dooley shot a 2-under par 69 July 21 in the first round of the 105th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship at Windsong Farm. He leads by one shot over five players including Jim Lehman, the brother of former Gopher Tom Lehman.

Dooley, the 1999 MGA Amateur champion, finished his Gopher career (1994-99) with the seventh lowest scoring average (72.45) in school history. He was named to the All-Big Ten First Team following the 1998 and 1999 seasons and tied for 12th individually at the 1999 NCAA Championships, en route to being named an All-American.

Gopher sophomore Cameron White is three shots back of Dooley after opening with a 1-over par 72. White, a graduate of Wayzata High School, sat out last season after transferring from Iowa State. Minnesota senior Andrew Paulson continued his great play this summer and is five shots off the lead heading into the second round. Paulson recently made it to the round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur Public Links tournament.

Four-time Gopher letterwinner Dave Carothers (1989-92) and Gopher junior Thomas Campbell are among a group that is six shots behind Dooley after carding a 4-over par 75. University of Minnesota recruits Christopher Meyer (Edina, Minn.) and Tim Peterzen (Elk River, Minn.) shot 5-over par and 7-over par, respectively.

The 105th MGA Amateur continues July 22 and concludes July 23 at Windsong Farm. Both rounds can be followed on www.mngolf.com.
