Gophers Gear up for Road Series at Minnesota State

GOPHERS TRAVEL TO MSU THIS WEEKEND
The No. 2/3 University of Minnesota women’s hockey team travels south on Hwy 169 to take on Minnesota State University, Mankato this weekend, Jan. 30-31 in Mankato, Minn. Friday’s game is set for a 7:07 p.m. start, while Saturday’s game is a 3:07 p.m. tilt, both at All Seasons Arena.

Along with the Gopher audio, MSU will have a live video feed for the games this weekend via All Pro Media. WCHA FINAL FACEOFF ALL-SESSION TICKETS AVAILABLE
Full-session tickets for the 2009 WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF championship are currently on sale at the University of Minnesota Ticket Office. Three-game session tickets for the women's championship will be available at three prices: $20 for a reserved seat, $18 for general admission, and $15 for seniors and youth (age 18 and under). Tickets may be purchased by calling the Gopher Ticket Office at 612-624-8080, or 1-800-U-Gopher, or online at Gophersports.com.
The two semifinal games will be played on Saturday, March 7 at 1:00 pm CT and 4:00 pm CT. The WCHA Championship game is Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 pm CT.

GOPHERS IN CONFERENCE ACTION
Minnesota enters the MSU series with a 16-2-2 record in the WCHA. Minnesota has outscored its conference opponents 101-30. Of the 23 players on the Gopher roster, 20 have scored points against WCHA opponents, including 17 goal scorers.

DID YOU KNOW?
Both the Gopher men’s and women’s hockey teams face Minnesota State University, Mankato this weekend. Along with the women’s team playing at All Seasons, the Gopher  men’s team will play the Mavericks at the Alltel Center at 7:37 p.m. It’s the first time in school history that both Minnesota teams are playing both MSU teams in Mankato, Minn.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
Minnesota State enters the Gopher series with a 7-14-3 overall record and a 4-13-3 mark in the WCHA. The Mavericks earned four points in their last series (1/24-25) against North Dakota. MSU tied UND, 3-3 and won the shootout, while earning a 5-3 win over the Sioux the next day. During the regular season, MSU has played in five overtime games and has participated in three shootouts. MSU has won two shootouts over UND and fell in one to Ohio State. The Mavericks have also won and lost a game in the overtime period. Interim coaches Paul Willett and Mandy Krause-Rideout are at the helm of the MSU program after longtime Maverick coach Jeff Vizenor resigned prior to the second half of the season. Christina Lee leads the Mavericks in scoring with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. Kala Buganski and Maggie Fisher rank second on the team in scoring with 21 points, followed by Ashley Young with 18. Freshman goaltender Alli Altmann has seen action in 18 games and holds a 5-9-2 overall record.

ON THE DOCKET
Following the MSU series, Minnesota returns to Ridder Arena to face No. 1 Wisconsin, Feb. 7-8. Both games against the Badgers are set for 2:07 p.m.
