The Big Ten Conference has announced that sophomore diver Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) has been named the Big Ten Conference Diver of the Week for her performance last weekend against Wisconsin. It is the Golden Gophers’ first honor of the season and Bryant’s first of her short Minnesota career.
In her first meet as a Golden Gopher, sophomore Bryant won both the one-meter and the three-meter competitions in Friday’s dual win against Wisconsin. Bryant, a transfer from the University of Miami, claimed top honors in the one-meter with a score of 323.33, besting the runner-up mark by more than 65 points. She followed that performance with her second win of the night when she took the three-meter event with a score of 374.10, almost a full 70 points ahead of the second-place finisher. Both marks were good enough to qualify for NCAA zone diving competition. With the award, Bryant returns the weekly diving laurel to Minnesota for the first time since Jacqueline Schroeder accomplished the feat in November of 2007.
Bryant and the rest of the Golden Gophers will travel to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes this Friday. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
