Minneapolis - When the University of Minnesota wrestling team returns to dual meet action following the holiday and semester break, they will do so by welcoming all youth wrestlers to the meet at the Sports Pavilion.

Minnesota hosts Iowa State on Sunday, Jan. 3, in a match scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start in the Pavilion. It will be a prime time match-up when the Gophers and Cyclones square off as the traditional mat powers have each been highly ranked all season. Iowa State has been ranked No. 2 in the nation all year long, while Minnesota has been ranked either No. 5 or No. 6 in each poll of the season.

As part of Youth Wrestling Day all youth wrestling teams get in free with their roster. To receive free admission, teams just need to send their rosters to Lauren Caffrey at caff0019@umn.edu by December 28th. It will be a fantastic opportunity for the future of the sport to watch two of the premiere teams face off, while the Gophers work towards their next national title.

Also on Jan. 3, Golden Gopher Wrestling will be honoring Torrey Line and Ben Berhow and their hometown communities of Browerville, Minn. and Albert Lea, Minn. By bringing the attached coupons, all wrestling fans can receive discounted admission when they come support Berhow, Line and the rest of the Gophers as they take on Iowa State.

The Gophers and Cyclones have met 54 times in the history of the rivalry with Iowa State holding a 35-17-2 lead in the all-time series. When the two teams met last season in Ames, Iowa, the host Cyclones came away with the 29-6 victory on Feb. 20. Minnesota last beat Iowa State on the 2006-07 National Championship season, with a 24-11 win at the National Duals.

Wrestling fans, young and old, do not miss out on Youth Wrestling Day when the No. 6 Gophers host the No. 2 Cyclones on Jan. 3 at 2:00 p.m.
