Gophers and Crimson Skate to 0-0 Tie

The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team and the No. 9 Harvard Crimson skated to a 0-0 tie, today in Cambridge, Mass. Minnesota's record now sits at 13-3-2 on the season, while Harvard is at 7-3-2.

The last time the Gophers skated to a 0-0 tie dates back to Jan. 30, 1999 when New Hampshire and the Gophers went scoreless in 65 minutes played. The last time Harvard has been shut out came Feb. 10, 2009 in a 1-0 loss to Boston College. The Gophers were shut out two straight days, falling 1-0 last night. It's the first tie between the two teams in 14 meetings.

Harvard attempted 14 shots on goal in the first to Minnesota's seven, but neither team found the back of the net in the first period of play. The two teams went scoreless in the second period as well. Harvard still held a slight lead in the second with 12 shots to Minnesota's 8.

Minnesota added on the pressure in the third period when it fired off 13 shots to Harvard's 11, but neither team could find the back of the net. Minnesota was 0-for-3 on the power play with four shots, while Harvard of 0-for-8 with the extra attacker and had 10 of its 39 shots on goal in that span.

Noora Raty tied a career-best 39 saves. The last time she had 39 saves came against Wisconsin in the 4-2 loss on Oct. 30. Raty kept the Gophers in the game early, stopping 14 shots in the first, 12 in the second, 11 in the third and two in overtime. Harvard's Kessler had seven saves in the first, eight in the second, 13 in the third and one in overtime for 29 saves.

Minnesota returns to Western Collegiate Hockey Association action next weekend when it travels to Grand Forks, N.D. to face North Dakota, Dec. 12-13. Both games are at Ralph Engelstad Arena at 2:07 p.m.
