Gophers Outplay Ohio State at Match Play

The University of Minnesota men's golf team defeated Ohio State 4.5 to 1.5 on Saturday on the final day of the Big Ten Match Play at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida. The Gophers finished the event 1-2.

Minnesota, the seventh seed in the event, received points from five of six guys in the lineup against the Buckeyes. Full points were won by Andy Paulson (defeated Bo Hoag 1-up), Victor Almstrom (defeated Brad Wright 5&3), Derek Chang (defeated Brad Smith 3&2) and Thomas Campbell (defeated Alex Redfield 4&3) while Yu Katayama halved his match with Michael Cress.

The Gophers will be off for two weeks until traveling to Rio Mar, Puerto Rico to take part in the NCAA Shootout. The event is scheduled for Feb. 27-March 1 and will be played at Rio Mar Country Club.
