Rowing Earns Weekly Conference Honors

It just its first week of competition, the University of Minnesota rowing team garnered Boat of the Week honors for its win over Tennessee last weekend. The Gophers share their weekly conference award with Wisconsin.

Minnesota swept its competition over Tennessee, last weekend, in Knoxville. The Gophers’ most impressive victory came in the Varsity Eight competition when they defeated the Lady Vols by more than three seconds. The Gopher Varsity boat of Lisa Pugh at stroke, Katie Johnson, Ashlee Vilmo, Stephanie Bakkum, Lucy Mulvey, Jenna Schuder, Sarah Graham, Cassie Drozynski and coxswain Ilana Ostrin won the event in a time of 6:35.00 to Tennessee’s time of 6:38.65. It was the first time the Gophers had competed since November 2 when they raced in the Southland Regatta in Illinois.

Minnesota will compete this weekend against the University of Iowa, March 28 in Iowa City, Iowa. Both the novice and varsity programs are scheduled to compete in the Big Ten Conference dual. Start time is set for 8 a.m.
