Periodically through the championship season, gophersports.com will catch up with the varsity rowers in a question and answer session. In preparation for this week's competition at the Sacramento Classic, we caught up with Culver City, Calif. native, coxswain Ilana Ostrin.

The first thought I had when joining the rowing program was:
I’m with the Big Dogs now.

The most challenging thing I’ve had to do in college so far is:
Prioritizing!

My most memorable sports experience was:
Winning the Head of the American in 2006 with my high school team.

What advice would you give to younger student-athletes?
Don’t sacrifice school work for athletics, and when looking at a university to attend, make sure it can provide more than just a good athletic program.

If you were to compete in a different sport at the U, what would it be and why?
Gymnastics, the artistry in the body movements is really captivating. I would love to move like that!

What has been your funniest road trip memory so far?
When the team went to Princeton this past fall, we had a pretty tough time fitting our oars into our rental van with all our gear and 11 people. It was pretty comical, we have some great photographic evidence!

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could bring three things, what would it be?
Tweezers, sunscreen, and bottled water.

My teammates would describe me as:
Beats me... ask them!

If I could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?
Tina Fey;  she’s funny, witty, and put together, all qualities I admire.

Something that most people wouldn’t have known about me is:
I will be leaving the U.S. for the first time this summer.

How many songs do you have in your iPod?:
1,587.

Favorite meal:
Spinach salad with goat cheese, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and cranberries.
