Michele Peterson, daughter of Jim and Cindy Peterson of Plymouth, Minn., has received a prestigious University of Minnesota 2009 President's Student Leadership and Service Award.
This award is presented to approximately one-half of one percent of the student body for their exceptional leadership and service to the University of Minnesota and the surrounding community. Only 46 students on the 50,000-student Twin Cities campus receive this award this year. Peterson, a 2006 graduate of Osseo High, is a junior majoring in biomedical engineering at the U of M.
Peterson last year created “Engineering the Future,” an outreach program for high school students interested in engineering. She is also President of the U of M Institute of Technology Student Board, member of the Society of Women Engineers, member of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
When she is not studying or organizing events, Peterson, who was named Osseo High’s Athena Award winner in 2006, is a varsity member of the U of M rowing team, and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. This year’s PSLSA winners will be honored at a banquet in May.
