Shannon Gates Q & A

6/8/2009 12:00:00 AM | Rowing

Periodically, gophersports.com will catch up with the rowers in a question and answer session.  This week's session is varsity rower Shannon Gates.

The first thought I had when joining the rowing program was:
Oh my gosh how do these skinny boats not tip over with nine people moving around in them?!

The most challenging thing I’ve had to do in college so far is:
Figure out how to effectively balance school and sports

My most memorable sports experience was:
Racing in the Grand Final of the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan

What advice would you give to younger student-athletes?
Find a happy medium between school, sports, and friends!

If you were to compete in a different sport at the U, what would it be and why?
Hockey because I love ice skating and I’ve always wanted to try it!

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could bring three things, what would it be?
A hammock, dance music, and a friend

My teammates would describe me as:
Very smiley I’m usually a pretty positive person and I hate being in a crabby mood.

Something that most people wouldn’t have known about me is:
Even though I’m tall - I was a gymnast for 10 years.

How many songs do you have in your iPod?:
501

Favorite meal:
Anything involving breakfast!
