University of Minnesota head men’s gymnastics coach Mike Burns has announced the Gophers’ 2010 schedule. Minnesota will host three intercollegiate competitions at home this season.
“It’s going to be another challenging season, competing against some of the top teams in the country again,” Burns said. “Oklahoma, Illinois and Penn State will all be tough meets for us on teh road. But at the same time, it will help us prepare for the season’s grand finale meets -- the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.”
Much of the home portion of the schedule, including Minnesota’s annual Alumni Meet, takes place early in the season. The Gophers’ first home appearance will be the aforementioned Alumni Meet, which is slated for Jan. 10.
The Gophers open the regular season with a trip to the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill. But they return home for a four-way meet with Arizona State, Calgary and Washington on Jan. 23 and a dual with Nebraska on Jan. 30.
The Gophers tangle with Big Ten foe Illinois on Feb. 6, before sending a contingent to the Winter Cup in Las Vegas the next weekend. A trip to Oklahoma rounds out the month of February.
Minnesota will travel to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions and Temple on March 6. The Gophers’ final home meet of the season will be a tri-meet with Illinois-Chicago and Iowa on March 13. Minnesota and Iowa will meet for two consecutive weeks, when the Gophers travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face the Huskers and Hawkeyes on March 21 to wrap up the regular season.
The Big Ten Championships will be hosted at Ohio State on April 2-3. The NCAA Championships will then take place April 15-17 on the campus of the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
