Get to Know the Rowers: Megan Lenarz

8/10/2009 12:00:00 AM | Rowing

Periodically, gophersports.com will catch up with the rowers in a question and answer session.  This week's session is varsity rower Megan Lenarz.

The first thought I had when joining the rowing program was:
I don’t know what that machine (the erg) is, but I guess I’ll give it a try!

The most challenging thing I’ve had to do in college so far is:
Balance all the roles my life fills: student, athlete, daughter, friend.

My most memorable sports experience was:
Winning the Big Ten Championship my novice year (2007).  It was the biggest rush of my life.

What advice would you give to younger student-athletes?
Prioritize what is truly important; you are a student, then an athlete. Your degree follows you longer than spandex.

If you were to compete in a different sport at the U, what would it be and why?
I would compete for any team if I had the talent.  As it is, I’ll cheer on the volleyball, soccer, swimming and softball teams.

What has been your funniest road trip memory so far?
Having Christine Cira get called out by the bus driver for pushing the emergency button instead of the flush of the bus bathroom on the way from San Diego to LAX.

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could bring three things, what would it be?
A towel, a Frisbee and a friend.

My teammates would describe me as:
Laid-back.

If I could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?
Either of my parents.  I admire them both and would love to see life from behind their eyes.

Something that most people wouldn’t have known about me is:
I only use one type of pen.  A .5 fine tip black ink pen.

How many songs do you have in your iPod?:
Roughly 470, but I don’t know for sure.

Favorite meal:
Grilled steak, glazed steamed carrots, mashed potatoes, Mom’s chocolate chip cookies.
