Gophers Fifth After Day One at Wolverine

After two rounds at the 2009 Wolverine at Radrick Farms, the Golden Gophers find themselves in fifth place, 24 strokes behind 36-hole leader Michigan. The Gopher men are 3-over par (578) after the first two rounds.
Minnesota shot an opening round 288 and was led by senior Ben Pisani, who shot a 69 and put himself in a tie for second place. Pisani finished his Saturday with a 71 (140 total) and is currently tied for sixth place, four strokes behind leader Lion Kim of Michigan.
Senior Thomas Campbell finds himself in a tie for 20th place after posting a 1-over 73 in the morning and an even par 72 in the afternoon session. Sophomore Derek Chang is in a tie for 31st with a 36-hole total of 147 (72-75) while a pair of freshman, Frederick Van Rooyen and David Haley Jr., are in a tie for 39th and 62nd, respectively. Both players are making their collegiate debuts as part of the starting lineup.
As a team, the Gophers finished the day with a second round 291. Minnesota is one stroke behind the fourth place Louisville Cardinals and five strokes behind the third place Baylor Bears. The final 18 holes of the 2009 Wolverine at Radrick Farms will be played Sunday morning.
