Rue Named Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week

Golden Gopher All-American Alicia Rue captured her first Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week award of the 2010 season after winning the pole vault at last Saturday’s Minnesota Open. Rue, a Plymouth, Minn., native, cleared a season-best height of 14 feet 1 3/4 inches, her second NCAA automatic qualifying mark of the 2010 season. She was the NCAA indoor runner-up a year ago.
Rue has earned the Big Ten weekly awards 10 times in her Gopher career. This is her sixth award during the indoor season.
Minnesota plays host to the Jack Johnson Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 22-23, at the University Fieldhouse.
