Gophers Downed by No. 4/6 Ohio State

Minnesota ran into a buzz-saw of a team suffering a 81-58 loss to No. 4/6 Ohio State in Value City Arena in Columbus on Thursday. Kiara Buford led the Gophers with 14 points. The Golden Gophers fall to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in Big Ten play.
The Buckeyes (21-2, 9-1 Big Ten) shot out to a quick 10-0 lead and never looked back. The Gophers closed within 17-13 with Buford scoring a pair of three-point field goals but Ohio State took control with a another 10-0 run.
Samantha Prahaulis, Ohio State’s fiery sophomore point guard, hit a lay-up as the first half ended extending the Buckeye lead to 55-26. Prahaulis had 19 points and nine assists by halftime and went on to tally an impressive double-double with 23 points and 10 assists.
The Gophers scored on their first possession of the second half. Minnesota, however, was unable to sustain an attack and cut into the Buckeye lead.
Buckeye All-American center Jantel Lavender finished with a points/rebounds double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds though she went only 6-for-17 from the field and played 30 minutes in the lop-sided victory.
Zoe Harper scored a season-high 13 points and added a team-high nine rebounds.
Ohio State finished the game with 10 three-pointers and just seven turnovers.
Minnesota continues action on Sunday, Jan. 31, when the Gophers play host to Illinois on Sunday at 4 p.m. in Williams Arena.
