Gophers Head to Duke for Rod Myers Invitational

2010 Rod Myers Invitational: Minnesota will travel to Durham, North Carolina this weekend to take part in the inaugural Rod Myers Invitational at Duke University Golf Club, a two-time site of the NCAA Championships (1962 & 2001).
Duke GC, a Robert Trent Jones-designed course, that was later redesigned by Rees Jones, will play at a yardage of 7,045 yards with a par of 72. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
Hosted by Duke University, the tournament will feature a 36-hole shotgun format, with a pair of 18-hole rounds on Sunday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Central and ending with 18 holes on Monday. Monday's round is schedule to start at 8:00 a.m.
Joining Duke and Minnesota in the field will be Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Iowa, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, Rice, Tulsa, UNC Greensboro and Virginia Commonwealth. The Gophers have played against Charlotte, Iowa, Michigan, Tulsa and Greensboro already this season.
Eight of the 12 teams are ranked amongst top 55 in the country according to the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, including three teams in the top 20. The rankings are as follows: Duke (12), Iowa (14), N.C. State (15), Tulsa (26), Michigan (31), Charlotte (39), Minnesota (52), Greensboro (54), MTSU (67), ETU (128), Rice (160) and VCU (169).
The Gophers: The Gopher's lineup will include one change from last week, as Tim Peterzen will replace senior Cameron White. Joining Peterzen in the lineup will be senior Donald Constable and sophomores Erik Van Rooyen, Shang Zhi, and David Haley Jr.
Last Time Out: The Gophers combined to card a two-over par 286 in their last 18 holes to finish the 17 team Windon Memorial Invitational in ninth place a 54-hole total of 876. Minnesota's final score is a 26-stroke improvement over its total in the season opening Gopher Invitational
Constable fired a two-under par 68 to lead the Gophers, earning him a tie for 12th place in final standings following rounds of 72 and 75 (215). Zhi was the next best finisher for Minnesota with a tie for 40th. White concluded in a tie for 53rd place, while fellow sophomores Van Rooyen and Haley Jr. ended in a tie for 50th.
Michigan won the team title by one stroke over Ohio State. The event included eight Big Ten Conference teams.
Up Next: Minnesota will head to the west coast for the forst time this season, as they are part of the field at the 2010 Alister MacKenzie Invitational from Oct. 18-19. The invite, hosted by the University of California, will take place at theMeadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
