Gymnastics Team Inks Three for 2011-12

Kylie Schermann (Lakeville, Minn.) is a senior at Lakeville North High School and is training at TAGS South. Her coaches are former Gopher gymnast Mindy (Knaeble) Kiff, Bryon Hough, Kevin Brown, Pet Nelson, and her parents Dan and Mary Schermann. Kylie is a two-time Junior Olympic Level 10 National Championship qualifier (2008, 2010). She finished in seventh place on beam and ninth on floor at the 2010 J.O. National meet, and was a member of the fist-place Senior C J.O. National Team. At the 2010 regional meet, Kylie finished fourth on beam and seventh in the all around. As a freshman in 2008, Kylie was the runner up on vault and floor at the J.O. Regional Championship. At the 2008 Minnesota state meet, she was third on beam and floor, as well as fifth in the all around. She was voted Hardest Worker at TAGS South multiple years, and also won Team Spirit and Most Improved awards. She is a former club teammate of Jamie Bullock, who competed for the Gophers from 2006 to 2010.
In addition to gymnastics, Kylie competed for Lakeville North’s track and field team as a high jumper and sprinter, earning letters in 2007 and 2008. She has also competed in soccer and dance. Kylie has been a strong student, earning a spot on the “A” Honor Roll every semester. She is a National Honor Society member, a Panther-Pre leadership member, and has earned several Student of the Month honors. Kylie was the Lakeville North Homecoming Queen this fall.
Kylie is the daughter of Dan and Mary Schermann, and has two younger brothers, Tyler and Trevor. She intends on majoring in human resources at the University of Minnesota, with minors in Spanish and public relations.
Jenny Covers (Prairie Grove, Ill.) is a senior at Prairie Ridge High School. She has competed for her high school gymnastics team, and also trains at Crystal Lake Gymnastics. Jenny was the champion on vault and floor at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state meet in 2010, where she was also third in the all around. At the Junior Olympic State Meet last season, she was the runner up on vault, placed fourth on bars, and was seventh in the all around. She went on to the J.O. Regionals where she was second on vault. In 2009, she was the IHSA all around and vault champion, wihle coming in second on bars and floor.
Jenny is a four-time letterwinner as a member of her high school gymnastics team, and has lettered in cheerleading. She has competed in club volleyball as well.
Jenny is the daughter of Bill and Kathy Covers, and has a younger brother Brett.
Cierra Tomson (Jacksonville, Fla.) is a senior at Seacoast Christian Academy, and trains at Gymnastics Unlimited under coaches Lisa Beadle and Michelle Aspinwall. Cierra is a five-time Junior Olympic Regional qualifier, and was a national championship qualifier in 2008. She did not compete in 2010 due to an injury. In 2009, Cierra was the all around champion at the Florida State Championship, She won three titles (all around, floor, vault) and was the runner up on bars and beam at the 2009 Gasparilla Invite. At the J.O. National Championship in 2008, she placed 13th on bars, 19th on floor and 15th in the all around. Cierra finished second in the all around at regionals in 2008. At the 2008 Florida State Championship, she finished second in the all around and was the vault champion. She won three titles (all around, floor, vault) at the 2008 Gasparilla Invite and had the highest all around score in the junior division at the 2008 Sand Dollar Invite.
Cierra is a member of the National Honor Society and has held a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout high school. She is the first student from her high school to earn a collegiate athletic scholarship in any sport.
Cierra is the daughter of Michael Tomson and Barbara Jones, and is the older sister of Desi. She is planning to major in finance at the University of Minnesota.
