Relay Wins 400 Free Grand Prix Title

Minnesota’s 400-yard freestyle relay captured the title in Friday night’s finals session of the Minnesota Grand Prix at the University Aquatic Center. The foursome of Curt Carlson, Zach Bolin, Kevin Baseheart and Michaels Richards clocked a season-best and NCAA “B” qualifying time of 2 minutes, 57.66 seconds to win the event.

Kyler Van Swol highlighted the individual event finishes for the Gophers. The freshman placed fifth in the 100 fly in a season-best time of 48.45 seconds.

The Gophers had two swimmers place in the 100 breast championship final. Josh Hall finished sixth in a time of 55.91 seconds. Ivan Gutesa was eighth in 56.35.

Carlson was 11th in the consolation final swimming a time of 1:39.18.

Competition continues on Saturday and Sunday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
