Minnesotans Janzen and Busack Sign With Gophers

Two native Minnesotan swimmers, White Bear Lake’s Kiera Janzen and Fergus Falls’ Heidi Busack are among a large class of student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Minnesota women’s swimming and diving team, co-head coaches Kelly Kremer and Terry Nieszner announced.
Janzen, a senior at Cretin Durham High School, is a multiple state champion, including 2009 titles in the 200 and 500 freestyle. She holds a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trial time standard in the 400-meter freestyle, the event she won the gold medal in at the 2010 World Youth Games. A 2008-09 U.S. National Junior Team member, Janzen swims for the STAR Swim Club coached by Paul Lundsten. Kiera is the daughter of Peter and Lisa Janzen.
“Kiera has been such a dominant swimmer in the state of Minnesota for many years,” said Kremer. “Now she will be representing the Golden Gophers! She loves to race; she loves to compete, and we are looking forward to having her in Maroon and Gold!”
A senior at Fergus Falls High School, Busack will compete in sprint freestyle and breaststroke events for the Gophers. She heads into the 2010 Minnesota State Championships looking to defend her title in the 100 free. Heidi is the daughter of Dave and Julie Busack and the younger sister of Gopher All-American alumnae Stacy Busack.
“It’s always great to keep the best Minnesota athletes in state,” said Nieszner. “Heidi is definitely one of the best sprinters coming out of Minnesota and she will strengthen and add depth to the sprint freestyles.”
