Tori Simenec, of Salem, Ore., has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at the University of Minnesota, co-head coach Kelly Kremer announced. Simenec will join the Golden Gophers for the 2011-12 season.
A senior at Sprague High School, Simenec swims for the Bearcat Swim Club under the direction of Craig Charlson. Simenec was a member of the U.S. National Junior Team (2007-08) and has earned multiple U.S. Junior and U.S. National Championships finals appearances. She holds 2012 Olympic Trial time standards in both the 100-meter butterfly and the 200-meter freestyle. Tori is the daughter of Todd and Sue Simenec.
“Tori is such an accomplished swimmer, yet she is a humble and down-to-earth person,” said Kremer. “What a perfect Golden Gopher! We are looking forward to continuing our climb up the NCAA ladder, and Tori will have a major impact in our team’s progression over the next four years.”
Simenec is one of a large class of 13 student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Minnesota women’s swimming & diving program.
“This is an extremely well-balanced class athletically,” said Minnesota co-head coach Terry Nieszner. “It is comprised of individuals who fit the Golden Gopher culture of excellence - academically, athletically, and socially. We couldn’t be happier with this class that will join us in the fall of 2011.”
