ON THE DOCKET
Minnesota’s next action comes on Thanksgiving weekend as the Gophers host Harvard, Nov. 26 and 28. Friday’s game is set for 6 p.m., while Sunday’s game is a 1 p.m. contest. Harvard is currently ranked 10th in the USA Today poll and receiving votes in USCHO.com.

GOPHERS SIGN FOUR MINNESOTANS
University of Minnesota women’s hockey head coach Brad Frost has announced four Minnesota natives have signed National Letters of Intent.  Forward Stephanie Anderson (North St. Paul), forward Rachael Bona (Coon Rapids), forward Meghan Lorence (Mounds View) and defenseman Rachel Ramsey (Chanhassen) have all signed and will join the Golden Gopher program next fall.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Minnesota welcomes back four of its student-athletes who competed at the Four Nations Cup last week with their respective teams. Sarah Erickson and Anne Schleper saw action in every game for the United States and earned finished second. Mira Jalosuo and Noora Räty also saw significant time for Team Finland. The duo earned third as Räty had 31 saves in a 2-1 win over Sweden.

FRENEMIES
After playing on the same team last weekend, three individuals are on opposite benches this weekend. Minnesota’s Mira Jalosuo and Noora Räty, along with MSU’s Emmi Leinonen all played for Team Finland last weekend. MSU also returns Lisa Edman and Emilia Andersson, who played for Sweden last week.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
Coached by Eric Means, Minnesota State enters the series, 6-5-1 overall and 5-5-0 in the WCHA. After dropping a series to Wisconsin in October, the Mavericks have one the next four straight against St. Cloud State and Ohio State last weekend. Nina Tikkinen produced four goals to lead MSU to a sweep over OSU last weekend and is a two-time WCHA Player of the Week honoree. In 12 games played,  Tikkinen has tallied 11 points, while rookie forward Kathleen Rogan leads the team with 14 points. Alli Altmann and Danielle Butters have each seen time in net this season. Altmann is 3-3-1 overall with a 2.98 goals against average, while Butters holds a 3-2-0 mark and 3.36 GAA.

THE SERIES
Minnesota holds a 47-3-3 all-time mark against Minnesota State, dating back to October of 1998. Last year, the Gophers went 5-0-1 against the Mavericks, playing in four regular season games and the first round of the WCHA playoffs. Minnesota’s tie last season came at All Seasons Arena. The two teams skated to a 1-1 tie with Minnesota earning the shootout point.

THE LAST TIME
The last time these two teams met, they competed in the longest game in school history. On Feb. 27 during the second game of the WCHA first-round playoffs, Minnesota earned a 4-3 triple overtime win over MSU to advance to the WCHA FINAL FACEOFF. It took 3 hours and 47 minutes of competition, but Emily West scored the game-winning goal at 1:16 in triple overtime to defeat MSU at Ridder Arena. Starting at 4:07 p.m., the Gophers and Mavericks played until West’s game winner at 7:54 p.m.

DID YOU KNOW?
Junior defenseman Anne Schleper and Ohio State’s Shannon rank at the top of the WCHA in defensive scoring. Schleper and Reilly each have eight points within conference competition. This weekend marks the three top rookie scorers in the conference in Kathleen Rogan (12 points in conference play), followed by Minnesota’s own Kelly Terry (11) and Sarah Davis (7).

AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
During the first month of the season, Minnesota played four opponents ranked in the top 10. Of their 11 games to kick off the season, eight came against opponents who are ranked. Minnesota is currently 3-5-0 against ranked opponents this season. The Gophers started the regular season with a two-game series against then-No. 7 Clarkson, sweeping the Golden Knights. The Gophers then hosted  then-No. 10 North Dakota and were swept by the Sioux and No. 3 Minnesota Duluth. Minnesota recently split against No. 1 Wisconsin.

WORKING THROUGH IT
Minnesota has had its fair share of injuries so far this season. Emily West has missed the last seven games (plus the Whitecaps exhibition), Noora Ray missed the North Dakota series due to an injury, while Alyssa Grogan has missed the past three weekends. Sarah Erickson also sat out the Oct. 30 Minnesota Duluth game, while Amanda Kessel missed the second Wisconsin game (11/6) . However, the Gophers have had some players step up in their presence. Becky Korwun has scored five goals already this season, surpassing her freshman goal production. Kelly Terry and Sarah Davis have also made an immediate impact already in their rookie year, tallying 12 and eight.
