Garrett Larson, of Newport Beach, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at the University of Minnesota, Golden Gopher coaches Dennis Dale and Bill Tramel announced. Larson will join the Gophers for the 2011-12 season.
A senior at Corona Del Mar High School, Larson will bring his talents in the breaststroke and individual medley events to the Gophers. He swims for the Aquazot Swim Club under the direction of Brian Pajer. Larson finished third in the 200 individual medley and fourth in the 100 breast during his junior season at the California Interscholastic Federation Division I Championships last May. He clocked personal-best times in the finals of both events: 1:50.78 in the 200 IM and 57.78 in the 100 breast.
“Our entire team is thrilled to have Garrett joining us next season,” said Tramel. “He fit in so well with our team during his visit to Minnesota. Garrett has family in the area and his sister Kelsey swims at Nebraska, a soon-to-be member of the Big Ten. Garrett will be joining a team that has a track record of developing great IM’ers and will be able to come in immediately and contribute. I definitely look forward to coaching him.”
