The University of Minnesota women’s gymnastics team is ranked No. 23 in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Gophers finished the 2010 season with a No. 25 national ranking. The Gophers are one of four Big Ten teams listed in the top 25 in the preseason ranking, with Michigan coming in at No. 9, Penn State listed at No. 14, Illinois at No. 17, and Minnesota at No. 23. The remaining Big Ten teams, Michigan State, Ohio State and Iowa, all received votes in the poll.

Minnesota has a tough road ahead in 2011, as the Gophers have competitions scheduled against six of the teams listed among the top 25 in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, including top-ranked UCLA.

“We are excited to be in the top 25 in the preseason coaches poll,” said head coach Meg Stephenson. “We’re also thrilled to be hosting the Big Ten Championships which we anticipate will be a very competitive competition.”

Minnesota kicks off the 2011 season with the annual Intrasquad Meet, an exhibition contest that will take place at the Sports Pavilion on January 1. The regular season will start at Ohio State on January 8, followed by the home opener against Iowa on January 15. A highlight of the 2011 season will be the Big Ten Championship, held in the Sports Pavilion on Saturday, March 19. Season tickets, single-meet tickets, and Big Ten Championship tickets are available online at gophersports.com or by calling 1-800-U-GOPHER.
