The vault will be an interesting event to follow all season long for the 2011 University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team.

The Gophers lost several of their top vault performers from a season ago, but they still have some key returners and will be entering the season with a mix of veteran leadership and infusion of talented youth.

Junior Adam LaFleur, who scored a season-best 15.800 twice last year, will be a heavily relied upon to provide veteran leadership for the Gophers this season.

Sophomore Harris Coleman is expected to be a  returning gymnast that gives the Gophers solid performances on the vault all season long. Junior DJ Repp will be another returning competitor who the Gophers will look to for coming through on the vault.

However, the vault will heavily involve freshmen this season.

"Our freshmen class is going to be key to our vaulting team this season," Burns said. "Matt Frey is doing some great things and Zach Chase was third at the Junior National Championships last season, so we're expecting a lot of things out of those two guys.  Adam Kern is also starting to show a lot of potential on that event as well."

Senior Ali Aleiou, who saw limited action for Minnesota last season is also expected to be a contributor on the vault. Aleiou saw a lot of action at vault during his sophomore season and scored a career-high mark of 15.65 against Nebraska.
