BSU Earns Shutout Win Over Minnesota

12/3/2010 12:00:00 AM | Women's Hockey

Bemidji State scored a goal in the first and an empty-net goal at 19:31 to earn a 2-0 shutout win over the No. 7 University of Minnesota women's hockey team. BSU snapped a four-game win streak over the Golden Gophers. Minnesota drops to 10-6-0 overall and 5-6-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Bemidji State scored at 6:01 in the first period when Erin Cody fired a shot just under the crossbar to put BSU up, 1-0. The assists went to Sadie Lundquist and Allie Duelman. The goal later proved to be the game-winning goal.

Minnesota attempted to even up the score when it pulled Gopher goalie Noora Raty with 1:08 remaining in the game. However, the Gophers couldn't get the puck past the neutral zone and Cody went in and scored her second goal of the game at 19:31 in the third.

It was just the third time the Gophers have fallen to BSU, dating back to 1998. It is the first time the Gophers have fallen to the Beavers on their home ice. The last time the Gophers fell to BSU came on Feb. 9, 2007 when the Gophers, coincidentally, lost to BSU 2-0 at Ridder Arena.

Minnesota will regroup and look for the series split tomorrow at 2 p.m. also at the Bemidji Regional Event Center.
