Gophers Hold First Intrasquad Scrimmage on Friday

Friday afternoon will offer fans a chance at their first look at the 2011 University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team as it holds its first intrasquad scrimmage at 3:30 on the third floor of Cooke Hall.

The team will be broken up into two competing squads, the Maroon and Gold teams, with each side looking to show what they can do as the regular season draws near.  The first regular season meet will be the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill. on Saturday, Jan. 15.

"We have a lot of young guys on the team that we will be relying on heavily this year so it'll be fun to see how they handle this first attempt at official routines," Minnesota head coach Mike Burns said. "I expect some great things from all the guys but it's still our first effort here so we will also expect a few minor mistakes. After the intrasquad we will be able to better address any areas of concern over the next few weeks."

The event will be free and access to the third floor of Cooke Hall can be gained by entering the student Recreation Center and then taking the skyway on the top floor near the basketball courts on the north side of the building.
