Gophers Finish Fourth at Big Ten Match Play

After the final round of the Big Ten Match Play in Coral Gables, Florida, the University of Minnesota finished in fourth place after losing the third place consolation match to the University of Iowa 3.5-2.5. Northwestern University won its match over Purdue University 6.0-0.0 to clinch first play in the match play tournament.

In the matches earlier on Saturday, the Gophers were beaten by Purdue 4.5-1.5. The Gophers earned halves from Donald Constable, Thomas Campbell, and Derek Chang in Saturday's early match.

In the third place match against Iowa, Robert Bell and Frederick Van Rooyen earned victories for Minnesota. Ben Pisani halved his match with Brad Hopfinger of Iowa.

Minnesota will take a week off from competition before returning to action Monday, March 1st at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC-Riverside. The tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, California.
