Gophers in Ninth After Round One at Kiawah

The University of Minnesota opened the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic with a first round 303 (15-over par). The Gophers currently sit in a tie for ninth place, 19 shots behind leader Augusta State.

Leading the way for the Gophers are junior Teresa Puga and freshman Jackie Shepherd, who both opened with a two-over 74. Junior Michelle Edlin shot a first round 75, while juniors Samantha Sommers and Mary Narzisi shot 80 and 81 respectively for Minnesota. Sarah Mooney of Augusta State is currently leading the tournament by one stroke after shooting a first round 68.

The Gophers will play Monday at the Oak Point Golf Course after playing their first round at Cougar Point. Minnesota tees off starting with Mary Narzisi at 8:45am EST on Monday morning.
