Gophers Tied for Fourth after Day One

The University of Minnesota women's golf team started the 2010 Northern Migration golf tournament by firing a 300 in opening round of at Poston Butte Golf Club in Florence, Arizona. The Gophers are in a tie for fourth place with East Tennessee State. The University of Texas-San Antonio leads the event, but is only two shots ahead of the Gophers, after a combined score of 298.

The Gophers were led on Monday by junior Mary Narzisi with a 2-over par 74 and is in a tie for 11th place. Fellow juniors Teresa Puga and Samantha Sommers each finished with opening rounds of 75 and are in a tie for 18th place. Michele Edlin, another Minnesota junior, and freshman Jackie Shepherd equaled cards with a 4-over par 76.

Narzisi is six shots off the lead, as Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro set the pace after carding a four-under par 68.
