Gophers Move Up a Spot at Migration

The University of Minnesota women's golf team moved up a spot on day two of the 2010 Northern Migration golf tournament by scoring an event tying low of 296 at Poston Butte Golf Club in Florence, Arizona. The Gophers sit alone in third place, five shots ahead of fourth place East Tennessee State.
The University of Texas-San Antonio is still atop the team leaderboad after equaling Minnesota's round of 296, clinging to its one shot lead over Idaho and two shots better than the Gophers.
Minnesota junior Samantha Sommers fired a career-low one-under par 71 to move up 14 spots on the leaderboard and will start the final round in fourth place with a 36-hole score of 146.
Fellow junior Teresa Puga, who was tied with Sommers following the opening round, carded an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday and will also be in medalist contention when the teams take the tee on Wednesday morning. She begins the final 18 in a tie for fifth at 3-over par 147.
Mary Narzisi, who paced the Gophers on day one with a 74, contributed a four-over 76 on Tuesday and is in a group of eight players that are tied for 10th place. Freshman Jackie Shepherd and junior Michele Edlin rounded out the Gophers' scoring with rounds of 77 and 79, respectively.
Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro continues to set the pace individually and holds a five-shot lead heading into the final 18.
The final round is scheduled to get underway at 8:00 p.m. (PDT) Wednesday morning in Arizona.
