Bryant Wins Bronze Medals at World Series

VERACRUZ, Mexico – The United States won four bronze medals, including two by Kelci Bryant in the second leg of the 2010 FINA World Series, which wrapped up Saturday evening. Bryant finished third in the women’s 3-meter contest and also won bronze with Abby Johnston in synchronized 3-meter.

Bryant earned her 3-meter bronze with 332.00 points. China’s He Zi scored 385.15 for gold, and Mexico’s Paola Espinosa took silver at 350.80. Bryant and Johnston scored 300.90 points in their international debut as a synchro team. They finished just 2.10 points behind silver medalists Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel of Canada. China’s He and Wu Minxia took gold at 324.00.

The FINA Diving World Series is an invitation-only event featuring the top performers from the 2009 World Championships. The third and final leg of the 2010 Series is scheduled for April 23-24 in Sheffield, Great Britain. The U.S. has won seven medals – one silver and six bronze – through the first two stops of the Series.

In her first year with the Golden Gophers, Bryant won the 3-meter diving title and became only the second Gopher to win an NCAA event title. Along with her national accomplishment, Bryant was also named the Big Ten Diver of the Year and the Big Ten Diver of the Championships.
