Gophers Finish Eighth At Big Tens

The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished eighth at the Big Ten Championships that completed this afternoon at Windsong Farm Golf Club. The Gophers were led by junior Donald Constable who finished in a tie for 16th place overall.
Minnesota shot a final round 295 to finish with a 72-hole score of 1190 (+54). Illinois repeated as conference championships by holding off late rallies from Iowa and Northwestern. The Illini finished a +21 (1157) whlle Iowa was second at +24 (1160) and Northwestern was third at +27 (1163). Michigan and Purdue rounded out the top five.
Northwestern's David Lipsky took medalist honors with a score of 281 (-3). Michigan's Matt Thompson was the runner-up with a score of 283 (-1). Iowa's Barrett Kelpin (E), Illinois' Luke Guthrie (+2) and Michigan's Jack Schultz (+3) rounded out the top five and the All-Tournament Team.
Constable was Minnesota's most consistent performer. He posted his third round of +2 73 on Sunday to place in a tie for 16th overall at 294 (+10). Constable had four birdies on Sunday but was hurt by a quadruple bogey on the first hole (his 10th hole of the day). Senior Thomas Campbell finished in a tie for 20th after a final round 73. Campbell finished with a 72-hole score of 295 (+11).
Sophomore Derek Chang carded a 4-over 75 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 32nd overall with a score of 302 (+18). Senior Ben Pisani finished in a tie for 39th after a final round 74, his best of the tournament. Pisani ended with a score of 304 (+20).
Rounding out the Gopher lineup was freshman Erik Van Rooyen in a tie for 39th place after a final round 76. He finished with a score of 304 (+20).
